Never put candy canes on the Christmas tree and then leave the toddlers unattended…
I told the big kids to put those candy canes up high this year. I did.
I told them that any that were put at toddler height would be swiftly devoured by small, ravenous beasts. I did.
What I didn’t tell them was that Naughties children are smart…way smart and that if they cannot reach the object of their desire they will find other ways.
Like… lie underneath the Christmas tree and shake the trunk until the candy canes rain down in a mass of fake pine needles and peppermint filled deliciousness and eat the lot while their mother is making dinner, leaving only traces of the sticky red goo on hands and little faces.
No, I didn’t tell them that.

You gotta admit, she is bloody clever.
I think this year our Xmas tree may just go up Xmas eve. We shall see.

Great heheheh.. I am not having a xmas tree this year. I am going to decorate a tree outside instead. that way I still have my tree, and I don’t have to worry about Amy trying to climb the tree etc etc etc…

Crafty little buggers, aren’t they? I bet Ivy’s on a tremendous sugar high now! This is THE reason that we didn’t decorate with candy canes this year. Very cute!

Oh this happen to use about two years ago… but they weren’t real candy canes! It is just another sign that you have genius children!

We decorated with candy canes one year and woke up the next morning to find the tree crawling with ants. Now we use plastic canes and keep the real ones in the fridge.
